Things I Read This Week – March 12

I’m an unbalanced information consumer. I read a lot more than I contribute. Here are some things I read this week that I think worth sharing.

The Cult of Busy

Scott Burkin makes some excellent points about our cultural fascination with being busy. My favorite of his observations, “We all get the same amount of time every day. If you can’t do something it’s not about the quantity of time. It’s really about how important the task is to you.”

Ideas

Ryan Holiday offers an interesting perspective on ideas and the reality that some of them will never come to fruition. Of note, “Here’s the thing I’ve learned about ideas. It’s your job to have them. It’s your fate that they’ll sometimes be ignored or unappreciated.”

5 reasons why your company should be distributed

It’s no secret I’m a big fan of Automattic. I love WordPress and I love how the company functions. I particularly appreciate their distributed (note the absense of the world virtual) office model. People all over the country connected by well-oiled technology. It’s a great model.
